As part of our environmental improvement program we are always looking for new ideas to reduce our on site water usage. Our current major project is the construction of a 1000m2 reed bed for the on site purification of all surface water produced. When complete the reed bed system will consist of four "ponds" three of which will consist of a number of reed species which remove contaminants from the water as it passes through the root system.
It is hoped that when the reed bed is fully established the water leaving the system will be of a suitable quality to be reused on site reducing our environmental impact still further.
From the beginning the water saving scheme has included us moving away from the automatic watering of our plants to hand watering with the use of hose pipes fitted with trigger controlled spray heads and watering cans. This not only allows us to have more control of the watering process but ensures our plant staff have a more hands on role with the care of the plants ensuring a better quality product.
